an ant scales my window sill

An ant scales my window sill
It has been on this sill for a week now
I watch it when it catches my eye
Wandering wandering
Is it looking for that sticky drop of juice
That I wiped up yesterday
Fountain of youth and sticky vitality
That I scrubbed off of its earth, its America
Poor Lewis or Clark
You’ll wander this sill until you die
Because you can still smell it
The sticky power stuck to your tongue
Like all explorers
You’ll die with your discovery soaking in your throat.
